Historical & cultural attractions

Perhaps the area’s most well-known historical and cultural attraction is the Marietta Square. First established in 1848, the traditional Southern town square features an inviting green space surrounded by Marietta City Hall, the restored Strand Theatre, as well as an array of boutique shops and highly rated restaurants. One other cultural attraction we would be remiss not to mention is the famous “Big Chicken” that looms over a KFC restaurant along Cobb Parkway. The 56-foot-tall bird-shaped structure often serves as a quirky point of reference for locals and visitors alike who are navigating the area. Other attractions to check out include Paper Mill Road with historic Civil War Ruins and Sope Creek. To learn more about the area’s esteemed historical and cultural attractions, don’t miss Marietta’s welcome center and visitor’s bureau, which is located a block away from Marietta Square in a renovated train station that dates back to 1898.

Nature & outdoor recreation

Whether you’re looking to climb a mountain, raft along a river, or hit a few golf balls around, East Cobb and Marietta feature many gorgeous parks, natural attractions, golf & country clubs like the Atlanta Country Club and Marietta Country Club, and other green spaces. The National Park Service manages several hiking-friendly park units in the area, including the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area and Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Looking to cool off on a hot summer afternoon? The Chattahoochee River, often known as simply the “Hooch,” is perfect for kayaking and rafting. Six Flags White Water is a large water park with many slides, rides, and other activities, and it’s located just off I-75.
